A salon truly couldn’t be a salon without resident French hair stylists. Urban Retreat has most salons beat- they have TWO! I sat down to interview this fabulous French duo (Phillippe and Christophe) that’s been with Urban Retreat for 2 years and felt like I should have been having a glass of champagne! They’re just so……French. It was lovely!
Phillippe Licausi is especially interesting because he came to the United States to work under famed stylist José Eber. Another talented French stylist originally from Nice, France mostly known for his trademark Farrah Fawcett look. Incredible, isn’t it? Phillippe worked and trained under José and then brought all of his talent to Urban Retreat. We’re lucky. We know.
There were so many interesting things about Phillippe that I discovered during our talk but what stood out most is deep connection and love for his culture. You can take the man out of France but you can’t take the French out of the man! Phillippe has just finished reading Les Larmes de Marie-Antoinette by Juliette Benzoni and enjoys reading other 18th century books. He lived in San Diego and Dallas before moving to Houston where he loves the people, weather, and the diversity. However, he admitted that he’s not a fan of the shopping here in Houston. GASP! Although I can’t possibly blame him for this; when you’re used to shopping in Paris, anywhere else is a bit of a downgrade! On the weekends you can catch Phillippe enjoying brunch at RDG on Post Oak or having a glass of wine at Café Mustache. When he’s not dining out, he loves to swim and work out. You gotta work off those indulgent brunches, right?
The talented Phillippe specializes in color as well as French cutting techniques. His favorite part of his job is being creative and making people look and feel beautiful. Phillippe’s hours are Mon. – Sat. 9-6. His prices range from $100 and up for a fabulous hair cut and coloring starts at only $85. Am I getting punked?! When he told me those great prices, I couldn’t help but think that maybe we were secretly getting over on him! A French cut for $100?! Where do I sign up?
